If you arrive at the Chennai International Airport (MAA), you can make your way to the campus in a Call Taxi, Ola, or Uber. Pre Paid Taxis from the airport to inside the campus cost about INR 600 to INR 700/- (Fare may hike during rainy days and peak hours). Metro trains are also available from the Airport to Little Mount station which is situated 3 km from Anna University.
Taxi
If you have heavy luggage or with a group of more than 3 persons, it would be convenient for you to hire an auto or a taxi. The Chennai Central Railway Station has a system of pre-paid autos and taxis. Else, you can travel by call taxi. There is a token booth for call taxis outside the station. Alternatively, you may also choose to hire an auto or taxi yourself. The fare to the campus from Chennai Central Railway station will be around INR 400/- to INR 500/- for a taxi, which will drop you at the exact location pinned by you. Taxis can either be pre-paid (the facility is available just outside the Chennai Central railway station), or can be booked with any taxi operators like Ola or Uber.
Metro Train
Central Metro station is located adjacent to Central Railway Station, from there get a ticket to Little Mount station (Blue Lane) which is 3 km away from the Anna University. From there, you can get a taxi/auto for about INR 150 to reach the campus. Frequency of Metro trains: 5-15 minutes from 5.00 AM to 11.00 PM.
Sub-Urban Train
- Use the subway and cross the street in front of the Chennai Central Railway Station, to reach Park Town station.
- Get tickets for train going to Kasturibai Nagar (Adyar). You can get a train every 20 minutes on weekdays during 4:30 AM to 10:30 PM and every 30 minutes on weekends during 7 AM to 9 PM.
- On reaching Kasturibai Nagar, get down and ask for Sardar Patel Road or Anna University. The In-gate of Anna University is at a walking distance of 8 to 10 minutes from the station.
You can also go to Park Railway Station opposite the Central station and take a local train to Guindy or Saidapet station and reach the campus from there by the buses 49/49F/21G-AC/21G/549/78 or 47/47A/47D/5E/23C/19/19B from the respective stations. We advise you not to use this mode if you are travelling with a heavy luggage. In addition, the availability of seats & the frequency of the buses are subjected to time and weather.
City Bus
If you are travelling with light luggage, you can take a city bus to Anna University. The bus stop is right at the Central Railway Station itself. The direct buses to the campus are 221H/221.
